Are you on track for a promotion?

Did you know that service as a community faculty can lead to promotion?

It’s true! Below are the guidelines.

Eligibility Criteria:

• A clinical or adjunct faculty member who has spent at least five years as assistant or associate professor is eligible for promotion to associate professor or professor.

• The individual must earn a record of “excellence” in at least of one of the mission areas: education, clinical service or scholarly work. These are described in the UNM School of Medicine’s Promotion and Tenure Standards Guidelines.

• The area(s) of excellence must be related to the services rendered to UNM. The Promotion and Tenure Standards Guidelines outline the criteria for promotion in the different mission areas.

• The individual must adhere to high standards of professional ethics.

Promotion Procedure:
• The department chair may recommend a promotion by submitting the following documents:

•Current and complete CV for the candidate
• A letter stating that senior members of the department concur with the recommendation for promotion
• The standard forms required by the dean of the School of Medicine
• Supporting documents such as letters, teaching evaluations, and publications
• The complete dossier must be submitted to the Office of Faculty Affairs and Career Development by the first Friday in November

Committee Recommendation:
• The dean’s ad hoc committee will review the dossier and make a recommendation to the dean.
